Why haven't I received any information from my school?
All MCPS elementary schools were given the opportunity to choose to participate. For a variety of reasons your school might have chosen not to participate this year. You are still welcome to participate in the event, but you will need to seek out the materials from a source other than your school. All files can be downloaded from this site. You can also sign up to receive our monthly Family Self-Guide by emailing Sarah Neubold. Each month will highlight a local museum or gallery and include a fun activity for your family.

Where do I find the Self-Guide Brochure?
You can download the brochure from this site by clicking on the "Self-Guide Brochure" tab along the left hand side of this page. You can also sign up to receive our monthly Family Self-Guide by emailing Sarah Neubold. Each month will highlight a local museum or gallery and include a fun activity for your family.

Do I have to attend the featured museum to use the monthly self-guide?
Not necessarily, most self-guide activities are designed to be used in any location. Some self-guide activites have been designed to match specific locations or exhibits.

How were the activities chosen for this event?
Based on feedback from past events, we found that families found it very difficult to look for specific pieces of artwork. We have tried to develop open ended activities. For example, art teachers throughout Montgomery County are implementing adapted routines from a program called Artful Thinking. These routines have been developed by Harvard's Project Zero to help make student's thinking visible by using visual art to develop critical thinking skills. The routines are simple enough that you can try them without any formal training. If you give them a try, the conversations you have with your children may surprise you!

Where should I go when I get to the museum?
Visit the information desk to pick up a gallery map and other musuem materials. Museum staff is always willing to answer questions about the museum. This website is the best resource for information and materials specific to Project: Quality Time.

Will the art teacher receive a list of students who attended this year's event?
Only if you fill out our survey! We hope to provide teachers with a list of all students who participated from each school. Don't forget, each completed survey will automatically enter your child in a drawing to win art supplies. Two winners will be selected each month. Thank you to Crayola for donating the prizes.

Will my child's school receive a prize for participating?
Not at this time, but don't forget, each completed survey will automatically enter your child in a drawing to win art supplies. Two winners will be selected each month. Thank you to Crayola for donating the prizes.

Does the art teacher from my school have to attend the event?
We do send out a request for volunteers and rely on interested teachers to help out at the event. Some teachers might choose to attend the event to meet their student's families outside of school. Teachers are not required to attend the events, but some have volunteered in other ways. For example, all of our self-guide materials have been developed by MCPS art teachers.
